Saint Paul, MN –This week, Teamsters Joint Council 32 officially endorsed Trista MatasCastillo for Ramsey County Board. MatasCastillo is running to represent District 3, which encompasses Saint Paul neighborhoods of Payne-Phalen, North End-South Como, Como Park, Frogtown, and Hamline-Midway as well as Falcon Heights.

Teamsters Joint Council 32 represents in excess of 62,000 active and retired members in the State of Minnesota, including many current employees of Ramsey County.

“We know that Trista will support Minnesota’s working men and women,” said Edward Reynoso, Political Director for Teamsters Joint Council 32. “We’re proud to stand side by side with her as she adds a new voice to the county board.”

Matascastillo has focused her campaign on ensuring county services are accessible for all residents, expanding housing options, and creating a sustainable community that offers transportation options across every neighborhood.

“The support of so many of our county workers is incredibly meaningful,” said MatasCastillo. “The families and businesses in Ramsey County rely on the hard working men and women of Joint Council 32 and I couldn’t be more proud to be their champion on the county board.”

The endorsement comes after MatasCastillo earned the official DFL endorsement as well as the support of a slew of progressive leaders including Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, Rep. Rena Moran, Rep. Carlos Mariani, Saint Paul School Board Member Marny Xiong, former Saint Paul City Council President Russ Stark, Current Council President Amy Brendmoen, and Council member Dai Thao. MatasCastillo has also earned the endorsement of the DFL Disability Caucus, the Stonewall DFL Caucus, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 70, Teamsters Local 120, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 110, and the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters.

She previously worked as an advocate for affordable housing with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity where she helped secure a historic $100 million statewide investment in housing across Minnesota in 2013. She currently works as a principal aide for the District 1 Ramsey County Commissioner and  lives in the Payne/Phalen Neighborhood with her husband, Hector, and their five sons.
