Saint Paul, MN – The Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee (SPACC PAC) is pleased to announce it has endorsed Trista MatasCastillo for election to the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners for District 3.

“We support Trista MatasCastillo for election to the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners,” said Tom Freeman, chair of the SPACC PAC Board of Directors.” MatasCastillo brings a strong balance of fresh ideas and applicable professional experience to the table, as well as demonstrated service and community connections that will be an asset when she is elected.”

“Economic development will be one of my top priorities as Commissioner,” said MatasCastillo. “We need investment in our neighborhoods and new living-wage jobs to increase our tax base and relieve the burden on homeowners.”

The SPACC PAC Board reviewed candidate questionnaires submitted to the East Metro Voter Guide and conducted in-person interviews with all of the candidates for District 3. After careful deliberation, the PAC Board voted to endorse Trista MatasCastillo and believes she best exemplifies the mission of the Chamber and the PAC. Foremost among the SPACC PAC’s decision making criteria were the following principles:

  • The SPACC PAC is non-partisan and will support candidates who meet the SPACC PAC’s objectives, regardless of party affiliation;
  • Any endorsed candidate must understand and support the concerns and interests of the Saint Paul Area/East Metro business community;
  • Any endorsed candidate must be electable; and
  • The candidate’s campaign position or previous voting record will be used as a determining factor.

The SPACC PAC’s objectives include business recruitment and retention efforts in the East Metro. MatasCastillo impressed the board by bringing forward several innovative and specific plans for development, as well as ways to include the business community in future growth opportunities.
