Saint Paul, MN – This week, the Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local 10 officially endorsed Trista MatasCastillo for Ramsey County Commissioner. MatasCastillo is running to represent District 3, which encompasses Saint Paul neighborhoods of Payne-Phalen, North End-South Como, Como Park, Frogtown, and Hamline-Midway as well as Falcon Heights.

Local 10 represents more than 4500 active and retired members in Minnesota and the Dakotas, making it one of the largest Locals in the International Association.

Trista MatasCastillo was also recently endorsed by the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce and Our Revolution Greater Saint Paul, with more than a dozen organizations or unions now supporting her campaign.

“Trista is a true mover and shaker, in a position where we can see an opportunity to give success for people and their community,” said Dave Holzer, SMW Local 10 Business Agent.
“Trista is someone we can count on.”

Matascastillo has focused her campaign on ensuring county services are accessible for all residents, expanding housing options, and creating a sustainable community that offers transportation options across every neighborhood.

“The media may not be paying attention to our race, but I and my team are out in the community every day talking about the progressive change we need in Ramsey County,” said MatasCastillo. “I’m incredibly honored to have their support. Their endorsement shows that our efforts are getting noticed, and will carry us through November.”

MatasCastillo has earned the endorsement of the DFL party, Saint Paul Federation of Teachers, the DFL Disability Caucus, Stonewall DFL, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 70, Teamsters Local 120, Teamsters JC 32 DRIVE, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 110, the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters, and the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee.

MatasCastillo has also garnered the support of local progressives like Governor Mark Dayton, Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, Representative Rena Moran, Carlos Mariani, and Erin Murphy, DFL endorsed candidates for House Representative Jay Xiong and Kaohly Her, School Board Members Marny Xiong, Mary Vanderwert, and Steve Marchese, Falcon Heights City Council Members Mark Miazga and Randy Gustafson, Saint Paul City Council President Amy Brendmoen and City Council Members Dai Thao and Mitra Jalali Nelson, and Chief Resilience Officer Russ Stark.

Trista is a veteran who served 16 years in the United States Navy, the United States Marine Corps, and Minnesota National Guard. She currently works at Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans. She lives in the Payne/Phalen Neighborhood with her husband, Hector, and their five sons.
