Saint Paul Federation of Teachers (SPFT)

Saint Paul, MN – The Saint Paul Federation of Teachers (SPFT) have announced their official endorsement of Trista MatasCastillo for Ramsey County Board. MatasCastillo is running for District 3, which encompasses Falcon Heights and Saint Paul neighborhoods of Payne/Phalen, North End/South Como, Como Park, Frogtown, and Hamline-Midway.
“Teachers are a vital asset in our community, and they have a lasting impact on our students and community,” said MatasCastillo, “I am humbled to have the endorsement of SPFT. In partnership we have the opportunity to close the achievement gap in education and give every child in Saint Paul the best opportunities for their future.”

The Saint Paul Federation of Teachers (SPFT) is made up of over 3,400 licensed staff, Educational Assistants, and School and Community Service Professionals who work at over 65 sites in Saint Paul Public Schools.

“SPFT is proud to endorse Trista. She is a parent of SPPS students and has supported SPFT as we work to create the schools Saint Paul students deserves. We know that she will be a great partner in creating the schools Saint Paul students deserve and we are excited to support her in her race for Ramsey County Commissioner, District 3.”

Trista has also been endorsed by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 70, Teamsters Local 120, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 110, and the Stonewall DFL Caucus. She previously worked as an advocate for affordable housing with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity where she helped secure a historic $100 million statewide investment in housing across Minnesota in 2013. She currently works as the Director for Training and Development for Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans and lives in the Payne/Phalen Neighborhood with her husband, Hector, and their five sons.
