Saint Paul, Minnesota – The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 70 have announced their official endorsement of Trista MatasCastillo for Ramsey County Board. Matascastillo is running for District 3, which encompasses Falcon Heights and Saint Paul neighborhoods of Payne/Phalen, North End/South Como, Como Park, Frogtown, and Hamline-Midway.

“The Operating Engineers help build and operate the things we rely on in our everyday lives,” MatasCastillo said. “I’m proud to have them stand beside me in our fight to bring jobs and opportunity for all Ramsey County families.”

The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 70 is a trade union representing more than 5,000 workers. The majority of their members are public sector employees ranging from colleges and universities to waste water treatment plants throughout the state of Minnesota. Though they began as a union representing workers in the stationary engineering field, today’s membership covers a wide variety of positions and workers who have chosen Local 70 to help them obtain the dignity, justice and respect they so richly deserve.

David Monsour, Business Manager for Local 70, said the operating engineers are proud to support a new voice for the Ramsey County Board.

“Trista has always stood shoulder to should with labor and we’re excited for her to bring strong leadership to the board,” Monsour said.

Trista has also been endorsed by the Teamsters Local 120, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 110, and the Stonewall DFL Caucus. She previously worked as an advocate for affordable housing with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity where she helped secure a historic $100 million statewide investment in housing across Minnesota in 2013. She currently works as a principal aide for the District 1 Ramsey County Commissioner.

Trista is a veteran who served 16 years in the United States Navy, the United States Marine Corps, and Minnesota National Guard. She lives in the Payne/Phalen Neighborhood with her husband, Hector, and their five sons.
